Q: When is a band not a band but just a middle-aged nerd making lists? A: BLACK TIME 2018. We are playing a very rare rock concert in 2019 though to celebrate Mr. Stix’s big birthday, so watch out for that.

Our tape-spewing living room improv offspring Midnight Mines did some stuff this year, check it here: https://midnightmines.bandcamp.com/. In the pipeline - soundclash tape with the General Echo Sound System and 2xCD greatest hits/unreleased double set on NZ-based lathe specialists Independent Woman Records.

In the meantime (and I know all 5 of you have been on the edge of your seat waiting for this), here’s my favourite records from this year. Not in order, except the Omertà album which is no.1 and I suspect a lot of people don’t know about it (I only stumbled across it accidentally via the recommendation of someone with their ear to the ground of the french underground) so I’m going to give you the link as well, one-off for some theatre production, pretty sure they’ve split up now but the LP they’ve left behind is totally fucking amazing, dream state post-punk perfection: https://omerta.bandcamp.com/releases. The vinyl package is stellar as well, postage is probably eye-bleedingly expensive but worth getting this if you can.

Other stuff I enjoyed: Grim Lusk - SUNP0101 (Domestic Exile) / Steven Julien - Bloodline (Apron) / Laurel Halo - Raw Silk Uncut Wood (Latency) / Crazy Doberman - Rust Clatter For The Midwest Sun (I Dischi Del Barone) / Rezzett - s/t (The Trilogy Tapes) / Cool Flowers - demos / Maxine Funke - Silk (Feeding Tube) / Asnakech Warku - Asnakech (Awesome Tapes From Africa) / 1991 - No More Dreams 03 (self-released) / Spontaneous Overthrow - All About Money (Numero Group) / Chen Yi - “The” 1978 - 1983 (90% Wasser) / Special Interest - Spiralling (Raw Sugar) / Carrie Cleveland - Looking Up (Kalita) / Ana Da Silva & Phew - Island (Shouting Out Loud!) / I-Mo-Jah - Rockers From The Land Of Reggae (Pressure Sounds) / Roy Montgomery - Suffuse (Ba Da Bing!) / Lavender Flu - Mow The Glass (In The Red) / Table Sugar - Demo / Lord Tusk - Communique EP (MIC) / Wreckless Eric - Construction Time & Demolition (Southern Domestic) / Michal Turtle - Return To Jeka (Music From Memory) / Yuzo Iwata - Daylight Moon (Siltbreeze) / Ben Vince - Assimilation (Where To Now?) / Arv & Miljö ‎– Svensk sommar i stilla frid (Omlott)
